(August 29, 2007) While there was no winner in Tuesday nights drawing for the $250 million Mega Millions lottery, Michigan State lottery officials have confirmed that a local shop sold the only winning second prize ticket in Michigan.
The ticket, worth $250,000, was sold at CJ’s Smoke Shop on Whittaker Road in Ypsilanti Township. The next drawing is Friday, August 31st, and the jackpot is expected to be nearly $325 million.
(August 7, 2007) The Ypsilanti School Bond narrowly passed with a 102 vote margin. Turn out was light for the August election with no other issues on the ballot. The final vote count was 1136 to 1034 with 52% voting for the bond.
The City of Ypsilanti votes voted more heavily in favor of the Bond proposal with all precincts reporting, 601 for and 376 opposed. Nearly 62% of Ypsilanti City voters were in favor of the School bond issue. However, voter turnout was very small in the City with less than 10% of registered voters showing up to the polls today.
Insiders at Ypsilanti City Hall were quietly pleased with the school results. While no one would speak on the record, hopes were buoyed for the city as they prepare for the upcoming City Income Tax vote in November. One official saying that perhaps it was a sign that voters would vote for the upcoming City Income Tax.
