(October 3, 2007) The City of Ypsilanti is reporting that their phone system has gone on the blink.

In a statement posted on the City’s website, they said, “Ypsilanti City Hall is currently experiencing technical difficulties with our phone and fax system. We are unable to make or receive phone calls indefinitely. If you need to contact someone at City Hall (which includes the City Manager’s Office, City Clerk’s Office, and the Planning, Treasurer, Assessing, Human Resources, and Building Departments) please contact the Department of Public Works at 734-483-1421 and they will forward messages. However, our e-mail system is working and you may find employee addresses on the city website at http://www.cityofypsilanti.com. We anticipate that our phones will be working within the next 24 hours.”

Ypsilanti Police are reporting that they are also experiencing problems with their phone lines and some calls, including 911 calls, are being routed to the County.

UPDATE: Phone service was restored by Thursday morning. City officials have not said what caused the problems.
