Sliders Win in Walk-Off Fashion

Roberto Mena’s flare single down the right field line brought home pinch runner Dennis Jones in the bottom of the 9thas the Midwest Sliders beat the Rockford RiverHawks 3-2.

Rockford jumped out to an early 1-0 lead off starter James Albury, who then settled down to allow just one more run in a strong seven-inning outing.

Rockford starter Mike Rogers made that lead stand up, but issued a lead-off walk to Ralph Rosas in the home 7th. Kyffin Marcum then entered the game and faced three batters, issuing two walks and a double to Mena, who went 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Maikel De La Rosa bounced into a force play which scored Jonnie Knoble to tie the game at two.

Jonathan Haldis entered the game in the 8th and threw two scoreless innings picking up the win.

Kyle Kearcher starts for Midwest on Wednesday. Game time is 7:05 pm at EMU’s Oestrike Stadium. This improves the Sliders’ record to 7-4, and drops Rockford to 2-9.
