Sliders Score 11 on way to Route Thunderbolts

The Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti (8-6) jumped on the Windy City Thunderbolts (9-5) pitching early and often on way to winning 11-3.

Sam DeLuca’s two run single set the pace for the game, as the Sliders went ahead 3-0 in the 1st inning. Windy City kept it close in the 2nd by scoring to cut the lead 3-1. Then in the 5th the Sliders broke open a lead the Thunderbolts couldn’t recover from.

The Sliders plated three runs in the 5th to make it 6-1. In the 6th they strung together three hits, a walk and an error to score four runs making the score 10-1. Zack Pace had a three hit night, Ralph Rosas added two, and Jonnie Knoble had a hit and RBI. Sam DeLuca went 3-5 with three RBI’s.

Ben Barrone added his first home run of the season in the 9th to complete the Sliders offensive explosion.

“We really spread out our hits tonight with multiple guys,” Sliders manager Eric Coleman added about the 13 hits Midwest had.

Mike Penn (3-0) picked up his third win of the season going 6.2 innings allowing 3 runs off five hits, and striking out six. Chris Rollins came in to put in the 7th and finished the game for the Sliders not allowing a run. Dustin Peace got his first loss of the season for Windy City.

Tomorrow’s middle game in the series features Sliders’ James Albury (0-0), against Ross Stout (0-0). The game starts at 8:05 p.m. in Crestwood, Ill. the Sliders finish the series Sunday against Windy City. Then they come home to Ypsilanti to face Florence Freedom Tuesday at 7:05 held at EMU’s Oestrike Stadium.
