Sliders Take Series in Windy City

CRESTWOOD, Ill, June 7, 2009

The Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti take two out of three games against the two-time defending Frontier League champs. They beat the Windy City Thunderbolts 6-3 and overall split the season series 3-3.

The Thunderbolts took an early lead in the first after two Slider errors put them up 2-0. The Sliders took the lead in the fourth with three doubles from Jeremy Jones, Sam DeLuca, and Ralph Rosas that gave them the 3-2 lead.

Zach Pace brought in an insurance run later, he also stole three bases. The game was tied heading into the seventh before the Sliders scored twice to make it 5-3. Another insurance run in the ninth made it 6-3.

James Albury earned his first victory of the season going six innings, allowing two earned runs, while striking out five. Arshwin Asjes earned his first save of the season not allowing a run and striking out two in the ninth.

The Sliders head back to Ypsilanti tonight and have an off day tomorrow. Their next game is Tuesday at EMU’s Oestrike Stadium they will be hosting Florence Freedom. The Sliders (9-7) are currently a game behind Florence (10-6) who is in first place.
