14 Hits Carry Freedom over Sliders

YPSILANTI, MI, June 9, 2009

Three home runs and 14 hits helped lift the Florence Freedom (11-6) over the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti (9-8) 13-2 at EMU’s Oestrike Stadium.

Brad Hough broke the game open in the top of the first inning with a grand slam that put Florence up 4-0. The Sliders came back in the bottom of the first with three straight hits to cut the lead in half. Zack Pace doubled and scored off a Roberto Mena single, Mena later scored.

That was it for the Sliders’ scoring though. The Sliders sprayed nine hits around, Gil Zayas went 2-4 for the Sliders.

Andy Clark got the win for Freedom going seven innings, only allowing two runs, and not walking a batter while striking out four. Kyle Kearcher suffered his second loss of the season giving up six runs in six innings.

Tomorrow’s game features Dexter’s own Mike Penn (3-0, 4.67) against Nolan Shaffer (0-1) at 7:05 at EMU’s Oestrike Stadium.
