YPSILANTI, MI, June 10, 2009

Florence Freedom (12-6) took the second game in the series with a 9-6 victory of the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti (9-9). The Sliders out-hit Florence but too many errors and walks came back to cost them the game in the end.

Florence started off the scoring with a three-run home run in the top of the second inning from John Welch’s bat. Gilberto Zayas answered with a home run of his own in the bottom of the second to make it 3-1.

After Florence tacked on another run the Sliders bats came alive in the bottom of the third. A triple by Roberto Mena was followed by four doubles from Jeremy Jones, Sam DeLuca, Zayas, and Ralph Rosas which put the Sliders up 5-3.

Then Florence capitalized from walks given to them from Slider pitching. They scored three runs between the 5th and 7th innings from walks. Jonnie Knoble added a solo home run in sixth inning as he went 2-4 on the night. Zayas also had a good night going 2-4, both hits being extra base hits too.

Mike Penn picks up his first loss of the season only pitching 4.1 innings allowing seven runs off only five hits. Carlos De La Rosa picked up his first win for Freedom and while John Miller got his third save of the season.

Tomorrow series finale will begin at 7:05 at EMU’s Oestrike Stadium. Douglass Brooks (1-1) will be getting the start tomorrow with hopes to salvage a game in the series.
