The Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti take the second game of the series with the Traverse City Beach Bums 3-2, in front of the second largest crowd of 6,387 at Wuerfel Park.

The Sliders jumped out to a early lead, and pitching held on for a close one-run win.

Clay McCord walked to begin the third and stole second to put himself in scoring position. Zace Pace singled and McCord scored off a throwing error by the second baseman to give the Sliders a 1-0 lead.

After Jimmy Baker reached on an error in the fourth, Robbie Knapp singled him home, to put Midwest up two. McCord produced again by doubling to left field, which scored Knapp making it 3-0.

Jeff Fischer made his first start for Midwest throwing 6.1 innings striking out seven, and picking up his second win, in only his second appearance. The Bums did scrap two runs on Fischer, one unearned in the fifth, and another run in the seventh.

Then the Sliders bullpen came in and for the second straight night slamming the door on any attempt for a Traverse City comeback. The relievers didn’t allow a run through 2.2 innings. Earl Oakes was the set up man throwing a scoreless eighth, and Arshwin Asjes earned his fourth save coming in for the ninth.

The Sliders will go for the sweep Sunday at 5:05 p.m. Mike Penn (3-4, 5.88) will toe the rubber for Midwest, while righty Jason Kiley (3-4, 4.66) will start for the Bums. Midwest will have a day off Monday, before starting a series with the Rockford Riverhawks on Tuesday at EMU’s Oestrike Stadium.
