Brodins Bombs help Sliders Blowout Grizzlies

SAUGET, ILL, July 21, 2009

The Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti pounded out 20 hits and 15 runs to give the Gateway Grizzlies a taste of their own medicine, since they put up 15 runs on the Sliders Monday night. Midwest won 15-5 behind two home runs from Joash Brodin, including a grand slam.

Kyle Wink made a strong start for the Sliders throwing seven innings only allowing four hits, and three runs. Wink struck out four batters on way to collecting his first win for the Sliders.

A five run third inning blew the game open for Midwest giving them a 6-1 lead. The inning was capped by a Gil Zayas three-run bomb over the left field fence.

Brodin crushed a homer to right-center with the bases loaded to plate Zayas, Clay McCord, and Roberto Mena to make the game13-1. Brodin went yard again to right-center his next at bat with Zayas on, giving him six RBI’s on the day, two homers, and the Sliders a 15-3 lead.

Jonnie Knoble added a homer for Midwest, his second of the season.

Wednesday’s rubber match with the Grizzlies will feature Mike Penn (5-4, 5.19) for the Sliders, against Mark Brackman (2-6, 5.45). The game will begin at 8:05 p.m. at GCS Ballpark.
